Flexible learning
Are you settled in your church or organisation and want to continue serving there whilst studying?
Or does studying towards a degree feel like a distant reality due to your current life commitments?
Our flexible learning is a fantastic option for you.
Why study theology online?
Immerse yourself in your chosen context
Flexible learning is designed to allow you to study from wherever you are in the country, whilst immersing yourself in your chosen context. This might be your paid employment (whether that be a church, charity or Christian organisation), where you volunteer, or the church to which you belong.
Quality support
Alongside being immersed in your placement throughout the year, you’ll also have access to regular group sessions as well as a personal tutor for dedicated one-to-one support.

Helpful insights
Residential lectures
Each year you’ll attend 3 residentials at the Moorlands College Campus – a 4-night residential including induction, followed by two further 2-night residentials. These residentials will provide you with the opportunity to enjoy time away at our beautiful campus, meet your lecturers and fellow course mates in person, and enjoy special times of worship and prayer together. You can find out more about our facilities here.
Placement
Your placement setting could be the church to which you belong, or it could be a Christian organisation or charity. If you’re doing the Applied Theology course, you will complete 6 hours of placement per week alongside your studies, and the Applied Theology Youth and Community Work course is 12 hours per week. These hours include preperation time as well as face to face work. If you are unsure about whether your context would qualify, please do get in touch.
Community
Whenever we’ve asked previous and current students what one word they would use to describe Moorlands, the most common word is always ‘community‘.
As a flexible learner, you will have opportunity to connect with and gain support from your fellow course mates through the online and residential lectures, as well recieving support from a personal tutor who can provide one-to-one support. You will also have access to our college chaplains who can offer pastoral support online.
What could you become?
Our graduates have gone on to do a whole array of different jobs from church pastors, to youth and childrens workers, to overseas missionaries, to teachers, to social workers, to police officers, to nurses, and so much more. You can find out more about what people go on to do here.
